A Singapore based company Grey Group has recently come up with an innovative idea of Life Saving Dot (Jivan Bindi) to combat the widespread problem of iodine deficiency among rural women in India. Jivan Bindi is an iodine patch bindi especially designed the rural women who cannot afford the health supplements or even a balanced diet for themselves. When women wear this iodine patch bindi on their forehead, it dispenses the daily required dose of iodine through the skin.
Jivan Bindi: Life Saving Dot
Bindi is one of the most significant beauty items used by the Indian women and this innovative idea from Grey Group have turned it into a Life Saving Dot. Grey Group from Singapore partnered with an NGO, The Neelvasant Medical Foundation and Research Center to develop this iodine patch bindi.
These Iodine Patch bindis were distributed in medical camps across rural India including small villages like Peth, Niphad and Kopergaon in Maharashtra and Badli in Delhi. Over 1 lakh tribal women would now be able to combat the iodine deficiency in their body using these bindis. 30 bindis were given to each woman to last for a month.
Dr. Prachi Pawar, president of the concerned NGO said that these bindis when stuck on the forehead dispenses 100-150 micro grams to the body by skin absorption.
Talking about this special bindi, Ali Shabaz, chief office of Grey Group Singapore said, “Iodine deficiency disorder is a major nutritional problem and the Life Saving Dot is a simple, yet innovative preventive measure to a widespread problem in rural India”.
Mr. Ali further said that this program will soon be expanded to reach a larger population of rural and tribal women in India who need this vital mineral for their life.
It is no secret that Iodine deficiency leads to diseases like goiter, thyroid issues and weakened mental development, fibroid and lethal diseases like breast cancer. Stats state that more than 71 million of Indian suffer from iodine deficiency ailments.
Healthy women can give birth to a healthy nation and this innovative step from the Grey Group will certainly make a difference.
